Gold Rush fans are used to seeing Tony Beets operating his gold mine alongside his son, Kevin Beets. But during Gold Rush season 14, Kevin’s absence is clearly felt by his father. Episode 1 sees Kevin’s siblings step in for him while he’s away and many viewers of the show are confused on his whereabouts.
Tony Beets has been starring in Discovery Channel’s Gold Rush since season 2 and has had huge success mining in the Klondike. Working alongside Parker Schnabel and Rick Ness, 63-year-old Tony is back this year. He’s determined to keep his business within his family.
Kevin Beets on Gold Rush
Tony’s son, Kevin, writes in his Facebook bio that he’s been mining for gold for the past 16 years.
He and his family, including mom Minnie, sisters, Monica and Bianca, and his brother Mike, have all starred on the Discovery Channel show with Tony.
The Beets’ mining operation is a family-run business and when Kevin steps away from the claim in 2023, his absence is felt at Paradise Hill.
Kevin is taking time out
After starring on Gold Rush for nine years, Kevin Beets tells his dad via a video call that he and his girlfriend are considering taking a “year off” from mining.
Kevin and Faith Teng said that they wanted to spend some time “gardening” and “fixing up their house.”
Gold Rush stars ‘make it work’
After Kevin and Faith shared their news with Minnie and Tony, they didn’t seem impressed by their son’s choice.
Tony explained that he’d have to find someone to work in Kevin’s place while he’s away.
Minnie said: “Things change, we have no choice sometimes.”
The two agreed that Kevin’s choice was “pretty clear” and that they’d “have to make it work.”
Speaking on Gold Rush in later episodes, Tony explained that he wants to keep his mine’s management in the family and enlists the help of his daughter, Monica, to take charge of the plant.
